My Personal StoryI was born in East London in 1963. As a child and young adult I battled with chronic depression, fear and anxiety. I grew up in a family who endured poor mental health, personality disorders and addiction issues. By the time I was 25 I was the mother of two children; struggling to be a parent and take care of myself. I never felt 'good enough' and didn't like myself at all.
For many years I grappled with who I was and what I really wanted in life, I was very unhappy. Life felt very harsh and pointless. I seemed to drift from one life mistake into another. In my late 20's I decided to go into therapy. This was the turning point for me and for many years I attended both individual psychotherapy and group therapy, slowly I began to understand where I was 'going wrong' and learnt how to pay better attention to myself and to my life. I started to understand myself and recognise why and where I had got lost in life. Through developing my self-awareness and building life skills I became clear and focused so became better equipped to completely turn my life around.
Aged 35 I began to recognise a purpose for my life and decided to 'use' my painful life experiences to build a 'happier' future for myself. It was then I decided to train as a counsellor. I had a desire to share and 'pass on' what I had learnt through my own mistakes. My career moved very fast and I was promoted several times until I finally became the service and development manager of two separate rehabs. I ran a very successful private practice for many years, working with individuals and facilitating therapy groups.
During 2015 to 2018 I lived in Tenerife and travelled with my practice, working with clients around the world.
In September 2018 I moved back to Buckinghamshire in the UK, I needed and wanted to be closer to those I love, especially my four Grandchildren.
I endeavour to continue my own personal journey of growth and self-awareness; learning how to love myself, face my shadow, build healthier relationships, appreciate and fully engage in life. This I believe is ‘Soulwork’.
Since 2001 I have held a private counselling practice; been service / development manager for two drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment services based in central London.
During 2017 to 2018 I was COO for a Swiss Rehab Clinic.
I travel globally as a client "live in" case manager, having worked with clients in Switzerland, Majorca, The Middle East and the UK.
